Canada’s newest low cost carrier, Canada Jetlines has announced that they are postponing their launch date from August 15 to August 29, 2022. The airline made the announcement on their social media post early this week.
What Is Canada Jetlines?
According to Wikipedia, Canada Jetlines Ltd., operating as “Jetlines” is a Canadian low cost carrier that will be headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario. The airline’s business model will emulate successful European low-cost carriers such as EasyJet and Ryan Air to offer a no-frills flying experience to passengers.
The airline said it is working with both Transport Canada (TC) and the Air Transport Association of Canada who are currently reviewing the documentation the airline submitted as part of their application for a flying license. The airline is eager to serve Canadian leisure travelers as soon as their application is approved.
“We’ve made the difficult decision to change our launch date as we continue to work with the regulatory authorities in Canada to secure our AOC,” shared Eddy Doyle, CEO of Canada Jetlines.
“We greatly appreciate the effort and diligence that TC goes through to approve new airlines and remain optimistic throughout the process. We will continue to build strategic partnerships with destinations, travel agencies, and airports as we build out our five-year strategy.”
Upon launch, the new airline will start offering flights from their hub at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to destinations in Winnipeg International Airport (YWG) and Moncton, New Brunswick (YQM).
When it is fully operational, Canada Jetlines will provide flight services to various vacation destinations in North America including destinations to the USA, Cuba, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Mexico, Antigua, the Bahamas, and many other Caribbean countries.
What Aircraft Type To Be Used?
As of August 2022, the new low-cost airline has secured a single Airbus A320-200, with registration number C-GCJL that it intends to use to start offering flights. It is worth noting that this particular aircraft formerly flew with Colombia’s national carrier, Avianca Airlines and Turkish low-cost carrier, Pegasus Airlines. The Airbus jet will be able to carry 180 passengers in a single class economy configuration.
On April 26, 2022, Canada Jetlines selected the Safran Landing Systems wheels and carbon brakes to equip its Airbus A320 family fleet. Under the long-term agreement, Safran Landing Systems will supply wheels, brakes and carbon heat sinks manufactured in its US-based plant in Walton, Kentucky, while the maintenance and logistics services will be provided by Hope Aero Propeller & Components, Canada’s leading wheels & brakes MRO specialist.
Safran Landing Systems was able to offer the most economical and reliable support package, which will allow Canada Jetlines to execute our growth strategy and focus on delivering the best value to our customers. We are excited for our new long-term partnership with Safran Landing Systems.”, said Brad Warren, Vice President Maintenance Operations at Canada Jetlines.
It is worth noting that the new Canadian low-cost carrier is projecting to have up to 15 aircraft by 2025 all of which will be the Airbus A320 family of jetliners.
